Inspired by his success as a sign designer, Seward established himself in his own design studio in his hometown of Chase, Kansas.  He received lots of support for his entrepreneurial effort.  The Chase Register in June of 1906,  published a souvenior edition featuring the work of Mr. Seward.

All of the illustrations as well as the design of this piece were created by Seward.  For the rest of his life, Seward supported himself and then his family with his work as a commercial illustrator and designer.
